The backstory

Tesla first appeared on my radar in 2008 when then San Francisco mayor (now lieutenant governor of California) Gavin Newsom pulled up next to me in his new electric roadster. It quickly and silently accelerated away and left a lasting impression. Some five years later the company had garnered some great reviews on its follow up vehicle, the Model S. Built from the ground up, it would be the worlds first premium electric sedan, and earned Motor Trends 2013 Car of the Year. That year I went for a test drive and was swiftly blown away, it was the perfect car I thought to myself. The only problem was that I wanted my next vehicle to be an SUV, well lucky me Tesla had just introduced a prototype of the Model X and were accepting deposits for sequential reservations. The X would be built on much of the same chassis as the S and very likely more technically advanced so I wired my $5000.- deposit that day.

So how is it that four years later my Model X has yet to be delivered?
